How To Make Chocolate Banana Cream Pie With Acron Flour Crust

Girls kitchen recipes – chocolate banana cream pie with acorn flour crust. The kids wanted to do a cooking project so they decided to bake a Banana cream pie. Since we are trying to cook foods that are natural and better for you they made the pie with honey and acorn flour rather than white flour and white sugar which the recipe called for. They used brown sugar for the Acorn flour crust as well. One of the girls is allergic to cows milk and our goats are not producing milk yet so they decided to substitute Almond milk for the cow milk in the recipe. They decided that while they were changing the recipe, they would go ahead and use all natural Chocolate Almond milk. We have not found any recipes that call for that. The kids cooked the whole pie in our outdoor kitchen so it certainly was not hot this December day!. They cooked the Banana pie filling on our H-45 heater / stove that we converted to solid fuel. They used acorn flour, brown sugar and butter for the crust and baked the pie in a cast iron skillet in our grill / oven. We do a lot of cast iron baking.
The recipe is:
2 1/3 cups fine Acorn Flour
3/4 Cup Honey (Sorghum, Molasses, Maple Syrup or similar substitute)
3/4 cup dark brown sugar for pie crust
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups all natural Chocolate Almond milk or similar substitute for cows milk
3 egg yolks (preferably home grown) beaten well
1 1/4 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract or similar substitute
4 ripe,sweet desert bananas, sliced
2 tablespoons sweet cream butter (or substitute)
Mix up the honey,flour and salt and slowly add the almond milk. Cook on the wood stove until it starts to bubble and cook another 2 minutes then take away from the stove. Mix the egg yolks into the hot mixture and cook for another 2 minutes. Stir it a lot so it doesn’t stick and burn. Take off the stove and add the vanilla. Put a layer of sliced bananas in the bottom of the pie crust, add the hot mixture and spread it out in the pie crust then add another layer of bananas on top. Bake it at about 350F for 12 – 15 minutes.
Cool it for an hour or so and then Enjoy!!!!

  5. Yum. One of my favorites. Never thought of doing it that way though. The acorn is an interesting twist I am going to give a try.

  6. The homestead kids wanted to do a cooking project so they made Chocolate Banana Cream Pie with Acorn Flour Crust. They cooked this up in our outdoor kitchen, baking it in our grill / oven and it was DELICIOUS!

  7. That looks really good!!!! I never thought about baking in abarbecue grill. I have baked bread in a square five gallon can, over a camp fire. That pie sure looked good. You never cease to amaze me.
